FMEA Virtual Conference/FOA Sessions

We are very excited to announce sessions for the 2021 FMEA Virtual Professional Development Conference and All-State Experience.  There are some amazing presenters and performances lined up for you!

Dr. Bob Gillespie from Ohio State University will be presenting two sessions: "Remembering the Joys of Teaching: Why Did I Go Into Teaching Again?" and "The Hardest But Most Important Task in Our Profession: Teaching Beginners in a Large, Heterogeneous Class to Play Correctly".  These inspiring sessions are not to be missed!

We will also have a vibrato session by Florida State University professors Kasia Bugaj and George Speed, as well as a session on teacher burnout by Raine Allen.  Judy Evans and Roland Forti will present a session "Talent Knows No Zip Code" and Vivian Gonzalez will present a session on using accommodations in the classroom.  These great sessions will provide fresh ideas and inspiration as we enter the new year.

In addition there will be performances by Melbourne High School Chamber Orchestra, directed by Michelle Eggen, and the Lake Nona High School Symphonic Orchestra, directed by Vincent Conrod.  We will even have an evening chat hour Thursday and Friday nights where you can connect and network with your FOA friends.

In addition, during the conference our All-State Orchestras will be meeting virtually with their conductors.  As FOA members, these All-State sessions are open to you to attend as well.  What a great experience to watch these master teachers work with our All-State students.  Please note that some orchestras will be using music and some will not.  All-State orchestra students and directors received an email last week explaining the schedule and expectations.  In addition, All-State students will have supplemental sessions and workshops on Saturday, January 23.

These orchestra sessions, along with ALL the other fantastic sessions and performances being offered at the conference, will be an incredible opportunity for professional development and growth - all experienced from the comfort of your own home.  The schedule of events can be found in the December edition of the Florida Music Director.  A general schedule overview can be found below.  Don't delay and register now for this wonderful event!
